General Motors India, the Indian arm of the American carmaker General Motors plans to increase its annual production to 1,10,000 units at its Halol facility in Gujarat. The decision to increase production comes amid its preparations to launch its new upcoming ‘Enjoy’ multi-purpose vehicle (MPV).

The automaker currently has an installed annual manufacturing capacity of 85,000 units and feels the need to ramp up production ahead of the launch of the Enjoy 8-seater MPV which has been developed in collaboration with its partner Shanghai Automotive Industries Corp (SAIC) using its platform. This will also be the first joint product by General Motors and SAIC to be introduced in India. A sedan car model based on SAIL platform is also planned for a launch by General Motors India.

The American auto major has raised its shareholding in the joint venture with SAIC to 91 percent thus acquiring complete control of the partnership.
