GM India to launch 2 new car models before end of 2012-13

General Motors India, the Indian subsidiary of the American automobile manufacturer General Motors (GM) is planning to launch 2 new car models from the Chevrolet stable before the end of the fiscal 2012-13. The carmaker plans to increase its market share significantly in the Indian car industry with the new car launches.

One of the new launches by Chevrolet will be the Sail sedan developed in partnership with the Shanghai Automotive Industries Corp (SAIC) which is providing the platform for developing the new cars. The Sail sedan will be competing with the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire, Toyota Etios and the Mahindra Verito.

The other car model will be the Enjoy multi-utility vehicle (MUV), which will compete with car models by other players in the market such as the Mruti Ertiga, the Toyota Innova, the Nissan Evalia and the Mahindra Xylo.

The Chevrolet brand is the only brand of cars which has been able to launch refreshed car models of the existing cars in a time span of 1 year, with the exception of the Beat hatchback, a refreshed model for which has been showcased at the Paris Motor Show in September-October 2012.
