Toyota back in number 1 spot

Last year Toyota was suffering, they had lost sales, and previously to that they were hit with a massive recall incident for malfunctioning acceleration. However it seems that the Japanese auto giant has recovered very well and is now back in full swing.

In 2010, they were the biggest auto manufacturers in the world, but then in 2011 they fell to third place. Even though it’s been a rough year for the rest of the world, including Japan, the car maker has suddenly shifted gears and pulled up operations. This year they have beaten American manufacturer General Motors and German manufacturer Volkswagen to reclaim their number one position as the world’s largest car maker.

In the last quarter they had a worldwide 18% increase in sales of their Camry sedans and the Prius, and in the quarter that ended on September 30th, they had sold a total of 2.43 million vehicles. So far this year the company has sold 7.4 million cars, while GM has managed to sell 6.9 million vehicles.
