Indian auto major Tata Motors has seen a 7 percent decrease in total sales in April 2012 with 60,086 units in comparison to 64,383 units in April 2011. The company’s passenger vehicle sales declined by 3 percent selling 22,658 units in the month against 23,387 units sold in April 2011.
In terms of exports, the company sold 2,781 units in April 2012, a decline of 35 percent compared with 4,258 units exported in April 2011. The company’s commercial vehicle sales also came down by 6 percent.
The Tata Nano, the entry level small car by Tata Motors witnessed a 20 percent decrease in sales with 8,028 units in April 2012 in comparison to 10,012 units in the same period in 2011. The Indigo car model sales declined by 31 percent selling 3,669 units in comparison to 5,282 units sold in April 2011.
The Indica hatchback range of car models however saw a growth of 63 percent selling 6,913 units in April 2012 in comparison to 4,250 units sold in the month in 2011. The utility vehicle segment including the Sumo, the Safari, the crossover Aria and the MPV Venture saw an increase of 5 percent in sales at 4,048 in April 2012 in comparison to 3,843 units sold in April 2011.
