Maruti Suzuki India total sales grow 3.4 percent in April 2012

India’s largest car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki has posted an increase of 3.4 percent in its total sales for the month of April 2012 with 1,00,415 units sold in comparison to 97,155 units in April 2011. The company has witnessed a growth of 3.6 percent in its domestic sales at 90,255 units in the month against 87,144 units in April 2011.

The exports of Maruti Suzuki have grown by 1.5 percent in April 2012 with sales of 10,160 units as compared to 10,011 units in the same period in 2011. The company’s total passenger sales out of the total domestic sales recorded a decline of 1.3 percent from 73,905 units in April 2011 to 72,939 units in April 2012.

The major contributor to the decline in the domestic passenger sales was the mini car segment, which includes the M800, the Alto, the A-Star and the WagonR, declined by 26.4 percent from 41,744 units in April 2011 to 30,720 units in April 2012. The increase in total sales is however attributable to the 43 percent increase in sales in the compact segment which includes car models such as the Estilo, the Swift and the Ritz. The sales in the compact segment jumped from 18,227 units in April 2011 to 26,072 units in April 2012.

The company’s newly launched Swift DZire car model sold 15,510 units in the April 2012, an increase of 31.5 percent over 11,797 units in April 2011. The sales for the SX4 sedan and the Kizashi luxury sedan declined 69.8 percent and 91.4 percent respectively in the month of April 2012.
