Tata Motors, India’s leading car manufacturer is considering developing a diesel engine based Nano small car. The company expects to revive the sales of the Nano car model which has witnessed a decline in sales for three straight quarters in the Indian car market in the fiscal 2012-13.
Mr. Karl Slym Managing Director Tata Motors stated that his plans to build a diesel version of the world’s cheapest car. The carmaker also plans another variant of the Nano which will be powered by CNG (compressed natural gas), the idea for which had been conceived by Mr. Ratan Tata former Chairman.
Industry experts and analysts state that the domestic business of Tata Motors is not is a good shape and new car models and products such as the Nano diesel and Nano CNG will help revive sales. The pricing of these products will also be a determining factor for sales and acceptance in the Indian market.
