Tata Motors to focus on new design language for its future cars

Indian automobile manufacturer Tata Motors has plans to increase focus on the design aspect of its car models with the aim of wooing customers. The intentions of the carmaker were made known by Mr. Pratap Bose Head of Design Tata Motors.

Mr. Bose stated that while Tata cars are well engineered and relevant for their segment, the carmaker feels the need to increase focus on the design of the car models as well and has initiated the process for the same.

The carmaker which held the spot of the third largest passenger carmaker in India till the fiscal 2012-13, was overtaken by Honda in the fiscal 2013-14 by volume. The annual sales of the carmaker fell by 38.64 percent in 2013-14.

Commenting about the new design strategy of the automaker, Mr. Bose added that the idea behind focusing on design is to roll out fresh products for its customers in India. He stated that the improvements in powertrain and other significant enhancements in its car products should also reflect in the design as well.

The new design strategy of the carmaker will reflect Indian inspired elements, starting from the upcoming Bolt and Zest car models, and will be based on ‘Humanity Line’.
