Indian automobile major Tata Motors has been carrying out a series of raids on the counterfeit parts and component suppliers and manufacturers across India. The carmaker has so far carried 70 raids in the country since the month of June 2013 in the attempt to stop the sale of illegal and fake car parts and spares.
According to the automaker, certain manufacturers and sellers are circulating counterfeit spares and car parts under the name of Tata Genuine Parts. The carmaker further stated that the high consumption parts and the easily manufactured parts are being targeted for counterfeiting.
Mr. Rajesh Bagga, Vice President (Legal) Tata Motors claims that the data shows that more than 50 percent of the popular brands sold in the Indian market are unreliable and counterfeit. He further added that 70 percent of the consumers go for the fake spare parts voluntarily once the warranty of the car expires. The carmaker is also attempting to work more closely with the retailers, spare parts distributors and mechanics to bring about awareness of its initiative to control and stop the circulation of fake parts in the market.
