Mini owned by BMW considers localization of production in India

Luxury auto brand Mini owned by the German luxury carmaker BMW has achieved sales of 280 cars in India since its launch in the month of April 2012. The luxury car brand is targeting the figure of 300 car sales before the end of the year 2012.

The parent company BMW expects Mini to become a significant player in the luxury small car segment in India and is considering setting up a local production plant to commence the production of the Mini in India. The plan to expand the dealership network for Mini is also under consideration.

According to Mr. Philipp von Sahr President BMW Group India, the auto company is considering the local production of the Mini and a production facility for the same will be included among its facilities in India. The company is in the process of studying the reach and acceptability of the luxury brand.

Currently, the Mini cars are being imported as completely built units (CBU).
