Maruti Suzuki market share crosses 40 percent in India

Maruti Suzuki, the largest car manufacturer in India has attained a market share of more than 40 percent in the passenger vehicle segment of the Indian automobile market. The increase in market share corresponds to the period April – July 2013.

The carmaker accounted for 3,20,491 units sold out of the total 7,93,708 units sold in the passenger vehicle segment in the domestic market in the April-July 2013 period. The market share of the Japanese automaker has increased to more than 40 percent of the total units sold in comparison to 38.96 percent in the same period in 2012.

While the actual number of vehicles sold by the carmaker witnessed a decline, the increase in market share is attributed to an overall decline in sales in the Indian automobile industry. The April-July 2013 period witnessed total sales of 7,93,708 passenger vehicles in comparison to 8,57,977 units sold in the same period in 2012, a decline of 7.49 percent.
