Maruti Suzuki, the largest car manufacturer in India has posted a sales growth of 19.2 percent in its total sales for the month of May 2014. The automaker sold a total of 1,00,925 units in the month as compared with 84,677 units sold in May 2013.
The domestic sales of the automaker in May 2014 stood at 90,560 units, an increment of 16.4 percent over 77,821 units sold in May 2013.
While the sales of the mini car segment including the M800, the Alto, the A Star and the WagonR fell by 7.5 percent, the sales of the compact car segment comprising the Swift, the Ritz and the Estilo hatchbacks jumped by 53.9 percent in May 2014. The carmaker also reported a growth of 9.8 percent in the sales of the compact sedan DZire.
The utility vehicle segment of the carmaker including the Gypsy, the Grand Vitara and the Ertiga MUV grew by 22 percent in the month, while the Omni and the Eeco van sales grew by 50.2 percent in May 2014.
The exports of the automaker also grew by 51.2 percent shipping 10,365 units in May 2014 in comparison to 6,856 units exported in May 2013.
