Japanese automobile manufacturer Honda is planning to nearly double the sourcing of auto components and engine components from India. The carmaker plans to increase its local component sourcing operations from India to about Rs 800 crore in the fiscal 2014-15.
The carmaker also plans to double its export operations to other global markets from India.
Commenting on the subject, Mr. Jnaneswar Sen Senior Vice President (Marketing and Sales) Honda Cars India stated that the component exports from India is expected to cross Rs 800 crore in current fiscal 2014-15.
Component exported by Honda from India include cylinder heads, transmissions and crank shafts produced at its Tapukara facility which are shipped to various global subsidiaries of Honda across the world.
Mr. Sen also added that the automaker is looking at expanding its export operations to more than 10,000 units in the fiscal 2014-15. In the fiscal 2013-14, the automaker had exported about 5,500 units including the Brio hatchback and the Amaze sedan to South Africa as well as Nepal and Bhutan.
