Hyundai India reports a 9 percent decline in May 2014 sales

Hyundai Motor India, the largest car exporter and the second largest car manufacturer in India posted a decline of 9 percent in its sales for the month of May 2014. The Korean automaker sold a total of 51,718 units in the month as compared with 56,856 units sold in May 2013.

The domestic sales of the carmaker stood at 36,205 units, an increment of 12.8 percent over 32,102 units sold in May 2013. The decline in total sales is however attributed to the fall in exports by 37.3 percent from 24,754 units exported in May 2013 to 15,513 units sold in May 2014.

Mr. Rakesh Srivastava Senior Vice-President (Sales and Marketing) Hyundai Motor India stated that the domestic sales performance of the automaker is in line with the market share and volume growth objectives for the current fiscal 2014-15.

The launch and sales of the Xcent compact sedan, the Grand i10 hatchback and the Santa Fe has enabled increase in volume sales in the domestic market and helped the automaker gain a positive momentum.
