Maruti Suzuki India posts 62.24 percent increase in August 2013 sales

Maruti Suzuki, the largest car manufacturer in India has recorded a jump of 62.24 percent in its sales for the month of August 2013. The carmaker sold a total of 87,323 units for the month in comparison to 54,154 units sold in the same month in the year 2012.

The domestic sales of the Japanese automaker increased by 51.6 percent in August 2013 selling 76,018 units compared with 50,129 units sold in August 2012. The jump in sales is attributed to a low sales base in the month of August 2012 when production at the carmaker’s Manesar plant was halted following violence and strike by workers and the death of a company executive.

The small car segment including the new M800, the A-Star and the WagonR witnessed a rise of 45.1 percent in the sales, while the compact segment including the Swift, the Estilo and the Ritz hatchback models grew by more than double in terms of sales.

The Swift DZire compact sedan was reported to sell 13,723 units in August 2013 in comparison to 3,085 units sold in the August 2012. The sales of the SX4 mid-size sedan witnessed a decline in sales by 22.1 percent selling 348 units in comparison to 447 units sold in August 2012.

The utility segment of the car manufacturer sold 4,563 units in the month in comparison 6,883 units sold in August 2012, a decline of 33.7 percent.

Maruti Suzuki exported a total of 11,305 units in August 2013 in comparison to 4,025 units sold in the same month in 2012, a three-fold increment.
