Nitol Motors, Tata’s sole distributor in Bangladesh has deferred the launch of the Tata Nano in Bangladesh as the company is re-looking into the pricing and seeking a cheaper price.
The Tata Nano was scheduled for a launch in Bangladesh at a car fair on October 15, 2011 and according to MR. Abdul Matlub Ahmad, Director of Nitol Motors, many people came to book the car, but the company decided not to launch the Nano at the last minute as some buyers found the car high priced, thus, the company is re-looking into the pricing.
Due to high taxes, the basic model of the Tata Nano would cost 599,000 taka (Rs. 3,87,753) in Bangladesh in comparison to its cost of Rs.1,41,000 in India. The Nano and other small cars when launched in Bangladesh are more expensive as importers have to pay 132 per cent tax on each car.
