BMW’s small luxury car Mini would be launched in India in 2012, priced above Rs. 25,00,000, announced the company on October 17, 2011. Currently, the company is deciding upon the models which are to be launched in India.
BMW India President, Mr. Andreas Schaaf told the reporters that the Mini would be sold in India as completely built units (CBU). When questioned about the pricing of the car, Mr. Schaaf stated the company has not yet decided on the pricing, but being a premium brand and car, it is expected to be priced above Rs. 25,00,000.
Talking about the retailing of the car, Mr. Schaaf said, “As a first step, we will have two dealerships in Delhi and one in Mumbai. In total, we will have 12 dealerships across the country in the coming years. As per plans, in 2013 we will add 3-4 dealers, followed by 3 more dealerships in 2014.”
According to Mr. Schaaf, the Mini which has already been introduced in other countries has met with a positive response, and the company is confident of receiving a positive response in India too, the only country where the Mini has not yet been introduced.
