Land Rover India postpones launch of the Defender till 2015

Land Rover India, the wholly owned British luxury car brand by Tata Motors has announced its decision to postpone the launch of its upcoming new Defender SUV car model in the Indian car market till the year 2015.

The British carmaker had been planning to manufacture the new version of the Defender Sports Utility Vehicle in India with a higher localization with the objective of reducing import taxes and pricing it competitively.

According to industry experts, the parent company Tata Motors is currently facing trouble in the domestic market due to dipping sales and hence introducing a new car model in India may not be very favorable for the Indian carmaker.

The existing model of the Defender SUV will be discontinued owing to non-compliance with future norms.
