The Maruti Suzuki’s Swift DZire compact sedan overtook its hatchback sibling the Swift in terms of sales for the month of April 2013, making it the second highest selling car after the Maruti Suzuki Alto. The DZire sold a total of 19,446 units in India in the month of April 2013 and was 400 units short from the top spot held by the Alto small car.
Commenting on the occasion, Mr. Mayank Pareek COO (Marketing & Sales) Maruti Suzuki stated that the DZire was launched as a complete package sedan at a price of a hatchback. He added that the features of compact sedan such as its efficiency of 23.4 kilometers per liter is comparable to the operating cost of any small car in India and makes the DZire more appealing to the Indian customers.
According to industry analysts, the DZire compact sedan has defied all laws of success operating in the highly competitive Indian car market which is driven by small cars.
In 2012, Maruti Suzuki revamped the DZire transforming it into a sub-4 meter compact sedan by reducing its length from 4.2 meters to 3.995 meters enabling the carmaker to enjoy the benefits of lower tax and a lower pricing for the customers.
