Indian Motorcycles, a subsidiary of Polaris India has just added the 2016 Springfield to its motorcycle line-up. The new touring motorcycle is named after the company’s headquarters in Springfield Massachusetts, and it carries a very hefty price tag of Rs 30.6 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The bike belongs to the Indian Chief family of motorcycles and it features a trunk-compatible chassis for higher loading capacity. The massive tourer also sports a bespoke quick-release windshield, and gets other standard features such as remote locking hard bags, adjustable passenger floorboards, leather seats, ABS, tire pressure monitoring system and cruise control.
The Springfield is a big highway cruiser and it weighs a whopping 388kg. It’s got a massive 20.8-litre fuel tank that sits on top of the very well refined 1,811cc V-twin engine. The bike has plenty of power and it’s got 138.9Nm of peak torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox and a belt-drive system, while the suspension use stelescopic forks up front and then it gets an air adjustable monoshock at the rear. The brakes up front use dual 300mm rotors clamped down by four-piston calipers, while the rear gets a single 300mm rotor and two-piston caliper setup. The Springfield is no doubt a very unique cruiser and with that price tag it certainly demands a lot of attention.
