Hyundai India’s sales grow at 66.4 % in March 2008.

India’s second largest car manufacturer Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) announced a record sales growth of 66.4 percent for the month of March, 2008 over the same period last year. The domestic sales grew by 52.3% while the exports grew by 96.9% over March, 2007.

The segment wise sales figures are as follows: A1 Segment — 41,259 units; A2 Segment – 5,690 units; A3 Segment — 10 units; A4 Segment — 37 units; and SUV Segment — 5 units

The total sales stood at 47,001 units. While the domestic market accounted for 29,401 units, exports totaled 17,600 units in March, 2008. The cumulative sales for March, 2007 had been 28,239 units with the domestic sales at 19,300 units and exports 8,939 units.

For the first quarter of 2008, the cumulative sales stand at 113,702 units with domestic sales at 68,302 units and exports at 45,400 units. Thus, the sales growth rate from first quarter of 2008 over 2007 was 42.2% with domestic sales growing at 30.8% and exports 63.8%.

Commenting on the record sales, H S Lheem, Managing Director, HMIL said, “We are absolutely delighted by our sales touching an all time high and we believe it shows the strength of the Hyundai brand. The newly launched compact i10 has done phenomenally well and is on its way to becoming a very popular car. Also with the commissioning of our new plant we are now in a position to meet the growing demand for the domestic as well as our overseas customers and this will help us strengthen our position in the market”
