India’s second largest carmaker Hyundai Motor India has started the shipment of disassembled knocked down (DKD) units of cars, including i10, to Sudan.
The company’s first shipment to the East African country of over 2,000 units comprised 96 DKD units of Hyundai’s compact car ‘i10’.
“We are today embarking on a new journey with the shipment of the first consignment of DKD cars which is also a first for us as well as the automotive industry here in India. Sudan has already been importing HMIL cars and the i10 in DKD is an addition to this,” Hyundai Motor India Managing Director H S Lheem said.
The company’s Sriperumbudur plant was nominated by Hyundai Motor Company as its global manufacturing hub for small cars meant for exports. It was earlier exporting ‘Santro’ to the Sudanese market.
