American auto manufacturer Ford has announced that the company’s new car models in India will be based on global platforms instead of being India specific. According to Mr. Nigel E. Wark Ford India Executive Director (Marketing Sales and Service), the company will make only the minimal of changes for its Indian car models to ensure suitability for Indian conditions.
Mr. Wark added that the India-specific model built on a global platform works better due to the combined benefits of a global platform as well as customized specifications for road conditions in India. Moreover, a global platform car has the benefit of being able to be launched in multiple car markets across the globe.
The cars on the global platform can have localized production and assembly in each country to ensure affordability and suitability to the requirements of customers in that market.
