Ford India, the American carmaker Ford’s Indian arm is planning to develop new car models based on global platforms which will be introduced in India along with higher localization. Following this strategy, the carmaker aims to double its market share in India by 2020. Currently, Ford holds about 3.5 percent of the total auto market in India.
Commenting on the company’s current portfolio in India, Mr. Joginder Singh President and Managing Director Ford India stated that the carmaker’s investments and plans for India are based on the huge potential in the Indian auto industry.
Mr. Singh stated that the American automaker expects to fill the gaps in its Indian car portfolio with new car models from Ford’s global platforms. The introduction of the new car models will be aimed to cover 70 percent of the Indian market. He further added that the company will be implementing high localization in order to competitively price its products.
