Ford India witnesses demand shift from diesel to petrol

Ford India, the Indian subsidiary of the American automobile manufacturer Ford has witnessed a 15 percent shift in demand from diesel to petrol cars over the period January to April 2013. The automaker states that with additional investment in factory flexibility, it can respond in a better manner to any further changes in product mix and demand.

According to the American carmaker, the diesel to petrol car sales ratio has become 80:20 from the earlier 90:10 in the period January to April 2013. Mr. Joginder Singh President and Managing Director Ford India commented that the company is in the process of changing the production mix at its factory in order to meet the changes in demand.

The carmaker is also investing an amount of approximately Rs 5,385 crore to setup a second manufacturing plant at Sanand (Gujarat) which will commence operations in 2014.
