While Maruti officials deny any such move, US-based automotive research firm CSM Worldwide suggests that MSIL’s Wagon-R might actually be replaced this year by a car developed on a new platform.
While an industry source said, “Every product has a specified life cycle beyond which it needs to be reworked. Sometimes these changes are cosmetic and sometimes it results in a completely new model like in the case of the Zen Estilo. Given the fact that the Zen Estilo fulfills the need of a tall-boy design, the current Wagon-R may be in for a completely new look”
On the other hand, a Maruti spokesperson said, “We have already said that in the small car space we are working on the A-Star concept for a year-end launch and Splash for next year. There is no tinkering in the offing for the Wagon-R.”
