Volkswagen to start pre owned business in India

Europe’s biggest carmaker, Volkswagen will be launching pre owned car business in India prior to launching its compact cars. The company has aggressive plans to capture the auto market with its dedicated ‘brand stores’.

According to Mr. Dhalivaal, MD of Volkswagen passenger cars, the used-car market would be an important strategy for the company as it is an easy way to poach people from other brands. Pre-owned cars would be a key part of their business and would also open up fresh revenue streams for the VW dealers.

Volkswagen currently sells its sedan Jetta and Passat along with SUV Toureg in India and is investing around Rs 2400 crores for a factory at Chakan in Maharashtra.

The other car makers who are in pre owned business include Hyundai’s Advantage, Ford’s Assured, Honda with Auto Terrace and Maruti with True Value.
