Volkswagen India to launch DSG automatic gearbox in Vento sedan

Volkswagen India, the Indian subsidiary of the German car major Volkswagen is planning to introduce the advanced twin-clutch DSG automatic transmission in the Vento diesel variant.

While the auto box will be the same as used in the automatic gear variants of the Polo hatchback and the Vento sedan, it will be mated to the 1.6-litre TDI diesel engine currently being used in the diesel version of the Vento sedan. The addition to the Vento variants is expected to be introduced around mid 2014.

The carmaker expects to fill the void created by the lack of an automatic variant of the diesel version of the car models in India. So far, only Hyundai Verna diesel sedan sports an automatic transmission.

Volkswagen has been upgrading the Polo and the Vento car models in India quite frequently in order to keep up with the increase in competition in the volume selling hatchback segment and the equally competitive mid-size sedan segment.

The Polo hatchback has been recently introduced with the GT TSI and TDI new engine variants along with various upgradations and design revamps.
