Volkswagen Group India to limit Skoda India operations

Volkswagen Group India, the Indian arm of the German automobile manufacturing group is planning to curb the operations of its Skoda subsidiary in the Indian auto market. The move by the auto group follows the failure by the Skoda Czech brand to attain volume sales.

According to Mr. Mahesh Kodumudi President & Managing Director Volkswagen Group India, new strategies are being considered for the Czech brand which currently holds 0.8 percent share in the Indian auto industry as of March 2014. He added that the group is planning to realign the strategy for the Skoda brand.

The Skoda brand has been facing stiff competition from rival carmakers such as Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai India, Honda India and Toyota Kirloskar Motor.
