Tata Motors to launch Freelander in India this week

Tata Motors will be launching Land Rover’s Freelander 2 in India on September 22. 2009. The Freelander is the cheapest model built by Land Rover, and is expected to be priced at approximately Rs 35 lakh in India. The vehicle offers an all-wheel drive and is currently sold in China and several European countries including the UK, France, Italy, Spain. It will be available in India as a Completely Built Unit (CBU), thus attracting an import duty of 109 per cent. The vehicle had completed its homologation tests in India in July 2009, and was expected to be launched in October. It is sold in the UK at as price of Rs 17 lakh. Tata Motorshad initially launched only three Land Rover models in India – the Discovery 3, the Range Rover and the Range Rover Sport. All three vehicles are priced upwards of Rs 63 lakh.
