Tata Motors target selling 2,00,000 Nanos in 2012-13 fiscal

Indian automobile manufacturer Tata Motors has plans to sell 2,00,000 units of its ultra small car Nano in the fiscal 2012-13. The company plans to increase the sales volume of the car through stronger efforts to sell the cheapest car in the world.

The Nano witnessed sales of 5,485 units in the month of July 2012, an increase of 68 percent in comparison to 3,260 units sold in the July 2011. In terms of total sales including commercial vehicles, the company sold 74,159 units in the month of July 2012 with a growth of 15 percent. Tata Motors has also announced a new competitive range of commercial vehicles to compete with other commercial vehicle players in India such as Volvo, Merc and Mahindra Navistar.

Commenting on the increase in the sales of diesel cars, Mr. Ratan Tata stated that diesel is the fuel of the future in terms of both fuel economy and torque. He added that every automobile manufacturer is currently working on developing and improving the diesel engine technology.
