Tata Motors to lay off another 3,000 temporary workers

After laying off 3,000 temporary employees at its Jamshedpur plant, Tata Motors is now doing the same at its manufacturing facility in Pune. It is believed that between 1,000 and 3,000 workers will be losing their jobs. The falling demand for automobiles due to the economic slowdown has resulted in production cuts and layoffs in a number of auto companies over the past few weeks, Maruti being one of them. A company spokesperson said that the layoff of temporary staff was routine for all auto companies. There have been production cuts at Mahindra & Mahindra, Maruti, Hyundai and Hero Honda.
