Drastic fall in auto sales in November

Automobile sales saw a steep decline in the month of November, compared to sales in the corresponding period last year. Maruti Suzuki, the most popular carmaker in the country, reported a 27 per cent fall in passenger car sales. While Maruti’s hatchbacks fell by 26 per cent, its saloon cars, the SX4 and the DZire together grew by 40 per cent. Hyundai reported a 23.3 per cent decline in sales. Tata Motors and GM, too, fared badly.

The only car company that seems to have done well last month is Honda, registering a growth of 15 per cent. This is largely due to the success of the new Honda City, 4359 units of which were sold in November.
