Tata Motors to launch revamped Nano as a smart city car

Indian automobile manufacturer Tata Motors is planning to reposition the Nano small car as a ‘smart city car’ with new features and improvements targeting young car buyers. The carmaker is also expected to launch a CNG version of the small car by the end of year 2013.

Addressing the Tata Motors shareholders at the 68th annual general meeting, Mr. Cyrus Mistry Chairman of group holding company Tata Sons stated that the automaker is currently working on a new version for the Nano small car with the aim to redefine the perception of the Nano as a cheap car.

Mr. Mistry stated that the new revamped Nano will feature new functions such as power steering as well as improved interiors and fuel efficiency.

The carmaker has been witnessing a decline in the sales of the Nano, selling 6,017 units in the period April-July 2013 in comparison to 27,625 units sold in the same period in 2012.
