Tata Motors developing new small engines for Indian car market

Indian car manufacturer Tata Motors reported to be working on a range of new small engines designed for the Indian car market and will be featured in the new upcoming variant launches of the Nano hatchback, namely the Nano Diesel and the Nano 800.

The carmaker is planning to step up the competition with Maruti Suzuki’s Alto 800 with the introduction of diesel and CNG variants in the Nano range of cars. According to industry experts, the Nano scores more that Alto 800 in terms of passenger space.

The Nano with a diesel engine option is likely to be priced around Rs 2,50,000 and is slated to be one of the cheapest diesel fueled cars in India. Industry experts state that Tata needs to work on the noise and vibrations of the Nano and the changes in weight of the vehicle when it houses a diesel engine, affecting its performance and acceleration.
