Tata Motors to close Jamshedpur plant temporarily

Tata Motors will be shutting down its Jamshedpur plant again, from November 25 to November 29. This is the second time that the company is shutting down its Jamshedpur unit this month, the first being from November 6 to 8. The step is being taken to avoid unnecessary inventory build-up, in response to the dwindling demand for vehicles the world over.

The Tatas had produced over 1,25,000 heavy vehicles in the last financial year, and were aiming for 1,50,000 this year. However, the current economic scenario has made it difficult for the company to reach its target. Only 50,000 vehicles have been produced so far in the current financial year and the figure may not go beyond 1,00,000.
