General Motors may be in a crisis situation in the US, but that has not significantly impacted GM India’s operations, thanks to GM Daewoo Auto and Technology (GMDAT), the company’s engineering entity in charge of new car platforms in strategic nations. GMDAT was set up following the acquisition of Korean carmaker Daewoo by GM in 2002, and has been predominantly responsible for driving the company’s growth in India and other parts of Asia.
GM India should be able to operate normally even if GM were to go bankrupt in the US, as is being feared, because the company now has independent revenue generating centres across the world, India being one of them. These countries, mostly in the Asia-Pacific region, may have no further need of funding from the parent company.
