At a time when almost all car companies in the country are seeing a decline in sales, Skoda India has reported an overall sales jump of 28.5 per cent in the year 2008. The company’s total sales stood at 16,188 units in 2008, as against 12,596 in 2007. This is largely due to the successful launch of the super hatch Skoda Fabia in January 2008. Skoda, which sells 19 of its models in India, has sold 6,634 units of the Fabia since its launch. Skoda India board member Thomas Kuehl said that the company succeeded in growing despite the slowdown in the auto industry because of its focus on satisfying the consumer’s demand.
