Indian automakers saw a rise in April sales. Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., India’s biggest carmaker, recorded a 24% rise in sales in April. It sold 62,336 units as compared to 50,352 units last year. Maruti sold 43,121 units of its hatchback Alto, Zen Estilo, Swift and WagonR resulting in a rise of 27%. The sedan sales of the SX4 and the recently launched Swift Dzire sedans rose 97% to 4,187 vehicles.
India’s second biggest carmaker Hyundai Motor India Ltd. witnessed a rise of 48% to 40,001 vehicles from 27,069 last year majorly due to a 63% increase in exports. The domestic sales saw a drop of 21% to 21,501 units.
General Motors India saw a rise of 24% in April to 5,563 units from 4,474 units a year earlier. The sales comprised of 1,863 units of Tavera, 1,055 units of Aveo and Aveo U-VA, 393 units of the luxury sedan Chevrolet Optra, 1,963 units of its small car Chevrolet Spark and 289 units of Chevrolet Captiva.
India’s biggest motorcycle and scooter maker, Hero Honda Motors Ltd. saw a rise in sale by 9% in April to 286,252 units from 262,544 units last year.
Bajaj Auto Ltd. posted a 23% rise in sales of scooter and motorcycle in April to 2,03,930 units
TVS Motor Co. sales in April rose 4.8% to 109,937 units from 104,893 a year earlier.
