Production of the Brio hatchback halted by Honda India

Honda Siel, the Indian holding of the Japanese carmaker Honda, has halted the production of the Brio hatchback owing to shortage of automotive parts and components from Thailand which is reeling under major floods. According to Mr. Jnaneswar Sen, Senior Vice President for Marketing and Sales at Honda Siel Cars India Ltd., the company is facing acute shortage of parts for manufacturing the Brio hatchback and hence, has stopped the production for the month of December 2012. The automotive components sourced by the company include some electronic and under-body car parts.

The company has its manufacturing plant at Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh which is capable of producing 1,00,000 units annually. Mr. Sen stated that the company expects to arrange auto parts from other countries but the until then the production continues to be low.
