Nissan Motor India to boost of the capacity of its Orgadam plant

Japanese carmaker Nissan on September 22, 2011, stated its plans to enhance the capacity of its Orgadam facility near Chennai from the current 2,00,000 units to 4,00,000 units by 2012.

Nissan Motor India Managing Director, Mr. Kiminobu Tokuyama told the reporters that the company intends to enhance the capacity of the Orgadam plant and has currently undertaken a study for the same. Nissan in alliance with Renault has pumped in Rs. 4,500 crore for the facility, which would be utilized over a period of seven years. In July 2010, the facility rolled out the first unit of the hatchback Micra.

Speaking after the launch of the Sunny sedan, the company’s second product from the Orgadam facility, Mr. Tokuyama said the company plans to roll out a number of models from the facility. The company also said it had plans to introduce the diesel variant of Sunny soon in the market.

The company would also increase its dealerships from current 45 to 60 by March 2012 and to 100 dealers by 2013.
