Nissan India to hike prices from November 2012

Nissan Motor India, the Indian subsidiary of the Japanese automaker Nissan has announced its plans to implement a price hike across selected car models from its car portfolio in India in the month of November 2012. The increase in prices is being attributed to the rise in input costs and logistics expenses as a result of the increase in fuel prices.

The newly launched Nissan Evalia multi utility vehicle (MUV) by the car manufacturer will not be affected by the price hike. The prices of the Micra premium hatchback and the Sunny mid-size sedan will be raised with effect from November 1, 2012.

Commenting on the price hike, Mr. Nitish Tipnis Director (Sales & Marketing) Hover Automotive India stated that the appreciation in the input and transportation costs has compelled the automaker to revise the car prices. He added that other players in the Indian auto industry have already raised prices earlier in 2012 while Nissan has been absorbing the increase in costs.

The company targets the annual sales figure of 1,00,000 units by the end of the fiscal 2012-13. In order to do so, the carmaker has also initiated dealer network expansion from the current number of 75 to 95 dealers by the end of 2012-13 fiscal.
