New MD Sudhir Rao to head Skoda India

Skoda India, the Indian subsidiary of the Czech auto manufacturer Skoda has appointed Mr. Sudhir Rao as its Managing Director with effect from March 1, 2012. Mr. Rao has formerly been associated with Renault India, the French automobile manufacturer serving as Deputy MD and Chief Operating Officer.

The company has roped in Mr. Rao on the basis of his vast experience in the automobile industry, his international background and his knowledge about the Indian automobile market, states Mr. Winfried Vahland CEO Skoda Auto.

Mr. Rao has played a significant role in the establishment of Renault in India and supervised the setting up of the Renault-Nissan manufacturing facility near Chennai.

Skoda Auto India views the Indian car market as an important contributor to its future growth plans and its 2018 growth strategy with the aim of increasing global sales to more than 15,00,000 units annually. The company’s sales in India have seen a 50 percent increase in the year 2011.
