Mercedes-Benz India, the Indian arm of the German luxury automobile manufacturer Mercedes Benz has announced that it will commence the assembly of the S-Class car model at its Pune facility from the month of April 2014.
While the new car model is being imported into India, the local assembly operations of the automaker will enable higher production and roll out. It will also lower production costs for the carmaker and reduce the higher import taxes levied by the Indian government on completely built automobiles imported into India.
The annual capacity of the automaker has also been doubled to 20,000 in order to meet the sales targets and demand in the Indian luxury car market, stated Mr. Eberhard Kern CEO and MD Mercedes-Benz India.
The German luxury carmaker also plans to bring in new car models for the Indian car market as part of it ongoing strategy to re-capture the top position in the Indian luxury car segment.
