The Indian subsidiary of the German automaker Mercedes-Benz has unveiled its upcoming B-Class car model in India. The car with which a new segment will be created in the Indian luxury car market was showcased by the company in Greater Noida at the Buddh International Circuit on July 21, 2012.
Mr. Peter Honegg Managing Director and CEO Mercedes-Benz India stated that the car has witnessed encouraging sales in the international markets since its launch and 70,000 units have already been sold. The car slated to be launched in the Indian luxury car market around September-October 2012 will be imported into India and would be priced at about Rs 25,00,000. He added that the car would eventually be produced in India itself to control costs. The new B-Class car would be introduced with a petrol engine and a diesel engine version would later be added.
The German car manufacturer has been trying to lower import costs, a result of the devaluation of the Indian rupee. Mr. Honegg stated that the company is prepared to bring its entire range of car models to India by 2016.
