The R&D vertical of Mercedes Benz, Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India (MBRDI) has opened a new R&D facility at Whitefield, Bangalore. The new facility is the company’s largest R&D facility outside Germany.
MBRDI will enable the carmaker to leverage Indian talent pool for new innovations and technology, stated Prof. Dr. Thomas Weber member of the Board of Management Daimler AG and Head of Group Research Mercedes-Benz Cars Development. He added that more than 50 patents for innovation were filed by MBRDI in the year 2012.
Dr. Weber also commented that the Indian auto market offers high potential for the automaker and thus it is necessary to ensure that the needs of the buyers in India are taken into consideration during development initiatives.
Voicing similar sentiments, Dr. Jens Cattarius Managing Director and CEO MBRDI talked about the importance of harnessing the local capabilities in case of a global organization such as Mercedes Benz. He added that the company expects to utilize the Indian talent pool to fuel robust growth in the India auto market.
