McLaren launch P1 in Geneva – makes very auto journo go GA-GA

While Lamborghini might have had the coolest looking car at the Geneva Show with the Veneno, it was actually British super car maker McLaren who had the best looking car by far. What you see in the picture is the much awaited P1, McLaren’s bold and sensational car that will challenge the very best. The P1 is the successor of the ever so legendary Formula 1 that went out of production almost a decade ago.

The new car will feature a system called race-inspired Instant Power Assist System (IPAS) that gives the McLaren P1 astonishing performance.  0- 100kmph will take less than 3 seconds, 0-200 kmph under 7 seconds, and 0-300 kmph will be achieved in no more than 17 seconds.  Putting that into perspective, that’s 5 seconds faster than the legendary McLaren F1 road car. The P1 will also have a top speed that is electronically limited to 350 kmph.

All this performance is thanks to the V8 3.8-liter, twin-turbo, mid-mounted engine producing 737bhp and 720Nm of torque. This engine works together with an electric motor, which is in fact the IPAS, and generates 179bhp and 260Nm, resulting in a combined output of 916bhp and 900 Nm. McLaren has also announced that the car will cost from £866,000 on the road with a specification that fully equips the car for both road and track use. McLaren has closely monitored demand so as to maintain exclusivity, and announced a production number of just 375 units.
