Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest car manufacturer and the Indian subsidiary of the Japanese carmaker Suzuki has stopped the supply of the A-Star car model to the Japanese automaker Nissan. The decision has been implemented due to insufficient orders from Nissan.
The carmaker has had a seven year manufacturing and supply contract with Nissan since the year 2006-07 which has now been ended on grounds of insufficient orders. The A-Star supplied by Maruti Suzuki to Nissan was restyled and re-badged as Pixo compact hatchback car model, an entry level car under the Nissan badge in the European auto market.
While the two carmakers don’t have such manufacturing contracts for the Indian market, this is not new for the Japanese auto market. Moreover, most automakers have to redesign their strategy for the Indian market in order to make the products and pricing suitable for the Indian consumers and market conditions.
