India’s largest car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki posted a growth of 9.2 percent in its total sales for the month of July 2012 selling 82,234 units against 75,300 units sold in July 2011. The domestic sales of the auto company grew by 6.8 percent to 71,024 units in the month in comparison to 66,504 units sold in the same period in 2011 while exports grew by 27 percent to 11,210 units to .
The increase in sales numbers is being attributed to the growth in the sales of the Swift hatchback, the Swift DZire sedan and the newly launched Ertiga LUV (Life utility vehicle). The new Swft DZire sedan sold 11,413 units in July 2012, more than a three-fold growth in comparison to 3,021 units sold in July 2011. The sales in the utility vehicle segment led by the Ertiga witnessed a 1,036.1 percent growth in sales from 642 units in July 2011 to 7,294 units sold in the month in 2012.
The mini segment of the company comprising the M800, the Alto, the Astar and the WagonR dipped 23.7 percent in sales due to an apparent shift of consumers’ demand from entry level cars to compact cars. The compact car segment in comparison grew by 73.2 percent to 15,759 units in July 2012, up from 9099 units sold in July 2011.
