Maruti Suzuki India posts 3.1 percent decline in total sales for April 2013

Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest car manufacturer has recorded a decline of 3.1 percent in its total sales for the month of April 2013. The carmaker sold a total of 97,302 units in the month as compared to 1,00,415 units sold in the same month in 2012.

The domestic sales of the Japanese carmaker for the month stood at 90,523 units, slightly above its sales in the same month in 2012 at 90,255 units. The exports of the automaker declined by 33.28 percent in April 2013, from 10,160 units sold in April 2012 to 6,779 units in April 2013.

Following the industry trend of the shift from diesel to petrol cars, sales in Maruti Suzuki’s mini car segment grew by 13.69 percent selling 34,927 units in the month in comparison to 30,720 units sold in April, 2012.

The automaker’s compact car segment, including the Estilo, the Swift and the Ritz range of car models, witnessed a fall of 17.40 percent.
