Maruti Suzuki India posts 11.7 percent sales growth in September 2013

Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest car manufacturer and subsidiary of the Japanese carmaker Suzuki has posted a growth of 11.7 percent in its sales for the month of September 2013. The carmaker sold a total of 1,04,964 units in the month in comparison to 93,988 units sold in the same month in 2012.

The domestic sales of the automaker grew by 1.8 percent in September 2013 selling 90,399 units compared with 88,801 units sold in September 2012. The compact sedan segment of the company witnessed the maximum growth rising 42.9 percent with the sales of the DZire car model.

The compact car segment consisting of the Swift, the Ritz and the Estilo hatchback car models saw a growth of 16.9 percent in September 2013, while the mini car segment of the automaker grew by 4.9 percent. The sales of the mid-size sedan SX4 also grew by 31.3 percent in the month while the premium sedan Kizashi posted no sales.

The sales in the utility vehicle segment comprising the Gypsy, the Grand Vitara and the Ertiga fell 63.2 percent in September 2013, the sales of vans, the Omni and the Eeco saw a 30.5 percent decline.

The exports of the Japanese carmaker grew three-fold selling 14,565 units in September 2013 as compared to 5,187 units sold in the same month in 2012.
